New 10mm Bretonnians for Warmaster

New 10mm Bretonnians for Warmaster

The 4th army released by Forest Dragon as STL’s for 3D printing. These guys are knocking it out of the park, it seems, and I can’t wait to present to you the Chaos Undivided forces that they are still working on and releasing.

Also, another short note: I am presenting these miniatures as if they were Warmaster/Warhammer equivalent, not with their non-copyrighted names (so that GW doesn’t get upset). Just so everyone understands why I am calling Noble Elf Blademasters as High Elf Swordmasters.

Realm Knights

Your basic knight unit, the old Knights of the Realm. These form the core of the Bretonnian forces, which is the first indication that this army is not your usual infantry heavy force. Very nice figures and I especially like the animal sculptures on their helmets, a throw back to the old day for sure.

Realm Knights

Mounted Squires

Your basic light cavalry option, the squires do fill a role in this army however you might be tempted to always forego these and just load up on more knights. Bretonnian armies usually solve problems with lots of hard hitting knight units, which usually don’t really need a flank charge to support unless they are hitting something rock hard (and even then, why allow the enemy to score wounds on these squishy squires?). These are modeled with both spear and bow, an expensive choice but only an issue if you’re playing What You See Is What You Get WYSIWYG at 10mm, which is a bit daft.

Mounted Squires

Archers

Probably the second most staple unit of the Bretonnian Realm, their archers. I like the helmets, not much of a fan of the bowl shaped haircuts (although they are period accurate). It’s a bit of a shame that they are not being modeled with their trusty wood spikes which they used to fortify themselves.

Archers

Household Guards

I have to admit I actually like the Household Guards name a bit more then their Men-At-Arms Warhammer definition. These were men recruited from the local peasant population and trained and fed by their lord, and they would guard his domain or accompany him in battle. The miniatures are lightly armored, showing the fact that they are not heavy infantry, but one detail is amazing and that is the stylized lion on their shield, a call back to Louen Leoncoeur, the king of Bretonnia.

Household Guards

Peasants

In times of dire need, even the lowly peasants might get round up and join their Lords army as a sort of horde rabble, armed with anything sharp and sporting absolutely no armor. This rendition of a peasant regiment is actually amazingly in-character, with even cooking utensils making an appearance as hand weapons. Outside of their robes, the variety of weapons and the rag tag nature of the minis makes me think at zombies, to be honest. Must be those pitch forks!

Peasants

Elite Knights

We’re now going into the more special and rare options for the army. These are the old Grail Knights, simply a terror on the battlefield. Costing an arm and a leg, they dish out just as much damage as you’d expect them to and they are probably the centerpiece of any cavalry army. The models also show their legendary status, and I am, as always, a big fan of their winged helmets.

Elite Knights

Honoured Martyr

Whenever a Grail Knight dies, there might be some crazy devoted monks nearby to take his body and build a shrine out of it, since the Grail Knight is basically a living saint for them. Then they walk around carrying the knight all over the place, even in battle. These troops crack me up, as I always smile at their flagellant minded behavior. The centerpiece of the regiment has to be the skeletal knight resting in his bed, no doubt.

Honoured Martyr

Pegasus Knights

I think these were added in 7th edition Warhammer and they were pretty much broken then, so probably even now. Flying, an amazing armour save and lots of high strength attacks, these shock troops were perfect for charging small units of lightly armored foes, or even support your big charge with extra damage. I hate the fact that I love how they look, if that makes sense.

Pegasus Knights

Trebuchet

Another amazing miniature of a staple of the Bretonnian army, the Trebuchet. This war machine would hit hard and leave a lot of splattered bodies due to its high strength. The miniature simulates wood beams very nicely and I appreciate the blazonry on its weight. The whole model just oozes personality and it sells really well the war machine look.

Trebuchet

Characters

A total of 7 character models, 3 infantry and 4 mounted. While the foot ones won’t see much use, the mounted ones are perfect and they let you field either a sorceress, a commander, a banner bearer (esential) and even a lord figure which is heavily influenced by the Green Knight warhammer sculpt. This is probably the most useful character line up that I have seen from Forest Dragon as all of the mounted characters are extremely usable and make sense.

Bretonnia Characters

Lord on Hippogriff

Leaving the best for the last, we have a Lord model on a Hippogriff. This is basically a Louen Leoncoeur figure and it’s a worthy way of representing your leader. Lots of heraldry with all the most important Bretonnian symbols (the Grail, the Crown and a pegasus) and the model is wearing a crown just so we can be clear on his royal status. A nice addition is the banner that he carries, so maybe you can also use him as a banner bearer?

Lord on Hippogriff

Chivalry Knigths Army

So this is it! Another amazing release from Forest Dragon that is bound to hit that soft spot for anyone used to fielding Bretonnians in Warhammer or Warmaster!

New 10mm Bretonnians

And a small bonus, some ships! You sure are spoiling us!

You can find these miniatures here: Forest Dragon ! I’m going to be reviewing their Chaos release next!

If you don’t like Bretonnians, you can find some good Dwarf selections here: 10mm Dwarfs or the Forest Dragon Vampire Counts here: 10mm Vampire Counts. Or maybe you prefer 10mm Wood Elves or even 10mm High Elves.
