10mm Vampire Counts for Warmaster

Pretty good army selection!

10mm Vampire Counts

I’m always on the lookout for good miniatures out there, and with the 3D printing scene flying high sky these days, it’s natural that some quality has started to show up from all the various creators. What I really really like about the following army is that the artist/designer that created these is for sure (or was) a Warhammer Fantasy player, because as we will see, the units pretty much are 1 on 1 with the old Vampire Counts 7th Edition army selection.

Skeleton Light Infantry

Starting off we have the normal skeletons. These were a staple for the Vampire Counts army and the miniatures come with light armor, shield and spear. This might be a bit different then the normal sword and shield configuration that was mostly used, but as long as you don’t have units with both spears and hand weapons, you can declare them as a single option (be it spears or hand weapons).

Zombies

Zombies are the meat shields of a Necromancer army. Poorly armed and armored, they just bog down enemies and hold them pinned until the more dangerous forces of the Vampire Counts flank them. In general the power of the zombies lies in the fact that an enormous number of them can be raised to augment the existing units or create new ones. These models are also armed with the classic hodge podge of peasant weapons that the original WFB Zombies had.

Dire Wolves

The Dire Wolves are the light cavalry of the Vampire Counts army. They are extremely squishy and they die when sneezed at however they have a large charge range and inspire fear, so when they do attack some of the enemy light units, they usually overpower them quickly.

10mm Vampire Counts

Ghouls

One of the give away that this army is following the Vampire Counts of 7th Edition and not 6th Edition WFB is the fact that Ghouls are a rank and file unit. Before, in the 6th Edition, they were skirmishers (and good at it) tasked with securing the flanks. Ghouls are the only human (if you can call them that) unit that the Vampire Counts can use, as they are practically perverted humans that have taken to the habit of living in dark damp places and eating corpses.

Giant Bats

Again, a very good option for reaching out for the enemies ranged weapons or ranged units, Giant Bats have flying, fear and are pretty tough when compared to a gun crew or a few measly Empire Archers. Too expensive to be used as cheap Night Goblin fanatic bait, they can still be deployed very far away offensively and were usually the best bait one could throw against enemy frenzy troops, to disrupt their formation.

Skeleton Heavy Infantry

We’re passing to the heavy hitters of the Vampire Counts army now. Heavy Infantry, usually known as Grave Guards, is rock hard, due to the combination of powerful weapons, good armor save and their ability to not break due to their undead status. A unit of Heavy Infantry led by a Vampire is usually pretty much unbreakable by anything but a combined sandwich charge of your best troops, and even then the immortal Dracula could simply cut a bloody swath through you. These models look amazing and I like the new style helmets that they are sporting, with the bat wings.

Skeleton Knights

These are normal Skeleton Cavalry, armed with spears and shields. While useful, they don’t do anything that the Dire Wolves or the Giant Bats don’t do, namely have a big charge range and pick off weaker units. Otherwise, they are usually pretty expensive if they are the only option for normal cavalry available to your army.

10mm Vampire Counts

Vampire Knights

The powerhouses of the Vampire Counts army, the Blood Knights. I fondly remember one friend who used to field full Blood Knight armies, with not much else. Unfortunately, you can get out of their way or you can throw away something sacrificial, then overwhelm them once they break through your lines. Hugely expensive, extremely cool, extremely powerful!

Vengeful Spirits

The token Ethereal unit in the army, the Spirits are usually good for holding down small units due to their immunity to normal weapons rule. Given you can only hurt them with magical weapons, these were a pest to get rid of! Unless you had access to Runed Dwarf Cannons, that is. I don’t like the fact that the models have weapons equipped as theoretically Spirits had magical attacks, but I guess you need to show their militaristic nature somehow.

Baleful Carriage

The Black Coach as many know it, the fabled deathly ride which marches on the battlefield and inspires Terror, as it’s the resting place of the chief Vampire! The model is really nice and I really like the small crenels on its top cover. The coach is driven by a Wraith armed with a scythe, and it just looks right.

Winged Horror

Last but not least, a winged option for the General of the Army. While not unusual to have the Vampire charge into battle atop a great beast, usually you want to keep him safe in a bodyguard regiment of Grave Guards, but I guess this is a really good thematic for a Blood Dragon army. The model looks good and I like the fact that they provide a female option also, because bad ass female Vampire Countesses are not that rare!

Characters

Finally, the character list! Quite some comprehensive options being available here, like Master Necromancer, Strigoi, Female Lahmia vampire and classic Blood Knight and Von Carstein! My favorite has to be the mounted female, although I prefer my Vampires on foot, in the middle of the army, making use of their Leadership aura.

And here it is, in all its glory! You have basically every option that is a classic in the Vampire Counts army, and the array of units allows for a variety of compositions: heavy infantry, summon horde, cavalry force, whatever you need! With the miracle of printing, you can buy the files to print these, churn out 4-5 regiments out of each option and you’re practically set for whatever force you want to field!

The source for these amazing miniatures is here: Forest Dragon ! I’m going to be reviewing more of their army selection soon and I hope you enjoyed this article! Honestly, the quality displayed for this 10mm Vampire Counts army literally made me start researching printer options, as there are plenty commercially available!
