1:72 Sturer Emil – Trumpeter 07210

The “Stubborn” Emil was an experimental vehicle that fought on the Eastern Front. One of the prototypes was destroyed by bombers but the second one was captured in the battle for Stalingrad. Apparently it sported 22 kill markers on its barrel!

Introduction

This is an abnormal vehicle that was just prototyped by the Germans so you can guess I was pretty excited to finally mount up this kit. I opened the box in anticipation and I was not disappointed!

Assembly Process

The running gear was first as i cut the pieces from the sprue and assembled them onto the lower hull. I can honestly say this was the cleanest fastest running gear assembly I have ever done. So easy and smooth! The plastic is good quality (Dragon like) and no flash was to be found. The tracks are rubber and you can easily mount them also.

After that you have to assemble the upper hull that you glue on the body already. To be noted is that there is not allot of detail on it, however this might be because the actual vehicle did not have much detail to begin with.

Now on to the gun emplacement! The gun itself is easy to assemble but you might have problems with 1-2 smaller pieces that are hard to maneuver. The actual casemate is very easy to detail with all the stuff that is to be glued on the inside. Mounting the casemate on the main body might prove a bit fiddly if you did not join the model together perfectly but it can be easily solved by pushing a bit the pieces together.

And now just to add the awesome gun to the already awesome vehicle. You might be surprised but … that is it! It literally took me less than 60 minutes to put this together, partly because of only 100 or so piece count and partly because everything goes so well together.

Evaluation

Plastic Quality 4.5 (Very Good) Very good. Hard plastic that does not break easily. No flash present on the pieces.
Number of Details 4 (Good) Not that many however the overall aspect is smooth and detailed.
Instructions 4 (Good) No problem here. You can easily assemble this model with them.
Building Time 5 (Perfect) Amazingly fast kit to build. Around 50 minutes actual time.
Enjoyment 5 (Perfect) Because the model is such an unique vehicle and because everything fell into place smoothly i had a blast putting it together piece by piece.

Decals are included into the kit which is a good thing.

Fast and easy to build, good plastic quality and the overall quality made me re-think the fact that i prefer to build mainly Dragon models. I am honestly giving Trumpeter a chance after this kit and this should mean allot to you my fellow modelers. It is my first non-Dragon kit that I enjoy so much so top mark for it!

This kit just opened my appetite for more Trumpeter stuff (namely their KV-1’s and 2’s).
