As it reached the Eastern Front in late 1942 the Tiger was proved to be unmatched in long range duels. Impenetrable from the front and almost immune from the sides on medium ranges its 88mm cannon reaped grim harvests among the ranks of the Russian tanks. Some Heavy Tank battalions sported 13:1 kill ratio in armor versus armor engagements! However mechanical problems and the fact that both Allies and Soviets outproduced it with smaller cheaper tanks meant it did not turn the war as Germany hoped.
Introduction
This is a wargaming kit made by Plastic Soldier in the 1/100 scale (15mm). Needless to say i was hyped about this one after the Panther that i assembled. Boy, i was not disappointed!
Assembly Process
The kit can be made into either Early, Mid or Late production. I chose the Late period.
I started with the tracks this time just to randomize things a little. They are extremely easy to assemble.
Now we go to the turret which has a moderate amount of parts.
I made a mistake that you should not do. The top hatch should me mounted pointing towards the 9 o’clock position. As you can see mine is 12 o’clock.
Finally, the hull. Simplicity in itself. As you can see there’s not much to assemble as most of the detail is precasted with excellent quality onto the pieces already.
With the hull completed it is now time to assemble the whole machine out of the 2 tracks, the hull and the turret.
I made another mistake in mounting the special exhaust. It would have been fine for Early/Mid version probably but Late version never saw North Africa fighting.
And the cat is now complete. Good looking and extremely crisp joining and details.
Evaluation
Plastic Quality | 4.5 (Very Good) | Very Good. Hard plastic. No flash on the pieces. |
Number of Details | 5 (Perfect) | Nothing that needs to be added. |
Instructions | 4.5 (Very Good) | Easy to follow. |
Building Time | 4.5 (Very Good) | Under 15 minutes! |
Enjoyment | 5 (Perfect) | An easy to assemble but lots of details Tiger? Yes, please! |
I don’t think I even need to say it. An excellent kit to have in your arsenal. Easy to assemble but still not sacrificing any detail which is a big plus for me.
