A work-horse of the German army, the Opel Blitz truck was part of the solution for the increasing logistical problems the troops faced on all theaters of operation. Although combat troops would prefer halftracks for transport and assault, the Opel Blitz was employed in all kinds of utility roles, from carrying ammunition to being converted to an ambulance.
Introduction
This is a wargaming kit made by Zvezda in the 1/100 scale (15mm). The box art is nice (as usual) and the instructions on the back show that this model has 17 parts. We also know that Zvezda’s 15mm wheeled vehicles are usually a bit fiddly or hard to assemble, so let’s see this one!
Assembly Process
We start with the driver’s cockpit. Made out of 5 easy to put together pieces.
Next is the chassis and as you can see there’s a lot to put together. My only gripe is that the wheels don’t easily fit onto the axle’s and i broke the rear axle by pushing the wheels to hard. To fix this i recommend to enlarge the wheel holes a bit with any piece of metal you find around.
Next we mount the cockpit to the chassis.
And the actual cargo hold together with cover.
Honestly, it wasn’t so bad after all.
Evaluation
Plastic Quality | 4.5 (Very Good) | Very Good. Hard plastic. No flash on the pieces. |
Number of Details | 4 (Good) | Good details. |
Instructions | 4.5 (Very Good) | Instructions are nicely done. |
Building Time | 4 (Good) | About 10 minutes because of the wheels. |
Enjoyment | 4 (Good) | I always get nervous with fiddly bits but this one was quite easy. |
For all of you needing Opel’s in your unit, look no more. Considering the awesome price this hands-down beats any other metal option that you might have. Now, if they only did the Kfz.7 and the RSO tractor in plastic, that would solve basically all the german transport options.
