The Successor Wars: 10mm Seleucids!

I try to keep an eye on potential new miniature manufacturers and these days my attention was drawn to this: 10mm Seleucids!

10mm Seleucids

I have always held a deep fascination with the Macedonian army (as every other history geek) and the Eastern part of Alexander’s Empire is still shrouded in mystery to me. Partia, Bactria, Seleucia, all these things i know only from the excellent Rome Total War series. I am however a bit more accustomed to the famous pike troops as everyone worth their salt as wargamer in the Ancient Era has faced or played a Phalanx force.
The main advantage of the Phalanx was that it presented the enemy with a very unwelcoming sight in the form of hundreds of pointy long sticks which were hard to charge into! The doom of the Phalanx came when it met the formidable Roman Army (after many many years of dominating the battlefield) who was at first shocked but quickly learned to adapt to combatting this formation.

These miniatures are produced by Watts Miniature Company as a part of a larger project named Wars of the Successors (the war that started after Alexander death as his generals started to divide his empire among themselves, with the Ptomeleic forces being the most famous as they ruled Egypt with their dinasty). I have to admit that 10 or 15mm is pretty good for wargaming as that’s usually where you start to use units more as an indicator of an army rather then individual soldiers (such as you would be tempted to do in 25mm or 28mm).

For now the range includes just the Phalangites with and without pikes and an Officer miniature. The scale is 15mm and truth be told they look VERY GOOD up until now. This is one initiative that deserves to be bookmarked and checked on in the future!
