In this article you will meet Razvan Coman aka Niraco, competitive Warhammer 40k player. In acest articol facem cunostinta cu Razvan Coman aka Niraco, jucator competitional de Warhammer 40k.

Hello!

Hello Eugen!

Wargamer, boardgamer, modeler or all 3?

Surprisingly maybe but i started as a modeler. Not from that elitist layer which i honestly can’t stand but as an enthusiast which likes a tank model (be it not very historically accurate) or a helicopter with a beautiful camouflage scheme. My father was the one who got the virus to me and i stood by him when he built allot of russian models. Helicopters were his passion.

There was a teenage break after that and i wondered back by chance to plastic models. I didn’t leave them again for 7 years now. Boardgaming is just a close activity that is total dependent on the people around.

Wow, i didn’t knew you started from models and transitioned to wargaming. How was it to get into the hobby?

It was natural. The passion for history, fantasy and science fiction, the daydreaming and reading made it all natural.

Which is the biggest obstacle in your opinion in this moment to gaming?

The gaming. Joke aside the challenge is to make it all work out: your day to day life, husband responsibilities, head of the family, gaming employee. And money. You can’t deny that this hobby requires money, and sometimes allot of it.

Your favorite gaming system right now?

Warhammer 40k.

Warhammer 40k

Why 40k?

Good miniatures, good dynamic and immersion in a vast universe. Probably the immersion, the way Games Workshop built the story, the books, Horus Heresy series contributes the most. Plus it touches the kid in me the most…

Memorable moments?

Hmmm… there are plenty of those. I remember Zeber as he saved around 150 2+ saves for his terminators and destroyed 20-25 guardsmen squads in an Apocalypse game. I remember an incredible team battle that made us laugh so much. A game in which Ivan’s Necrons kept assaulting Obliterators. My Fire Prism suicide by ramming into a monolith and the list can go on. The day when i opened the gift from my wife: Eldrad painted by Jim Wappel…. i could go on.

Do you think luck influences this type of games?

It does and it does not. You can have a decisive dice roll or a series that can decide a match. But there are allot of angles that shadow luck influence and he can be a member of the equation but not the main one.

Do you play something on a pro level? (international)

Yes. 2 years of ETC (European Team Championshio) and surprisingly for many some of the best and fun matches i had were there.

I know you’re the captain of the W40k team. What armies/systems/boardgames do you own?

Well, let’s see:

Eldars and Space Wolves in Warhammer 40k, High Elves in Warhammer Fantasy, a regiment of Panthers with Panzergrenadiers support in Flames of War, 4 Cohors of Imperial Romans for Clash of Empires. I do have some Warmachine models but just because i like them.

I also own X-Wing miniatures and a series of boardgames that i play with my wife (Catan, Carcassone, Starcraft the Board game).

Any blog?

I am trying my hand at one but i won’t say it here (although it’s pretty easy to find).

Any advice for other hobbyists?

Find something that makes you dream, laugh, relax and have a good time. That’s the most important thing. The limit is only your imagination.

Thanks allot, Niraco!
